What is “Nearby” in Diablo 4?

Diablo IV

There are tons of terms in Diablo 4 which are used to define a specific situation related to either offense or defense.

There are also terms that define distance in the game. For example, Close would refer to enemies that are within your melee reach.

For a while now users have been confused about a particular term called “Nearby“. From the literary perspective, it is rather a simple word. However, the developers of Diablo 4 have a different take on it when it comes to the game.

In this guide today, we would be discussing what the term Nearby means as it seems to be undefined in the game.

What does the term Nearby mean in Diablo 4?

When we refer to distance in the game there are two terms we are quite aware of:

  • Close– This refers to enemies who are within Melee range.
  • Distant– Enemies who are beyond Melee range, provided you are standing still.

However, the term “Nearby” is not really defined in the game. We generally use this when we are in a lobby with other members and we get a 5% XP boost for Nearby members.

There are also Legendary Aspects that refer to this word. Below is an example:

Over here we are referring to “Nearby enemies” instead of lobby members.

You might have noticed that on going really far away from your lobby, you lose the XP buff as there are no longer any lobby members near you or rather nearby.

So at least now we know that “Nearby” has a specific radius. However, understanding how it refers to a situation related to enemies could be more confusing than we think.

Especially since we do not have an indicator to tell us how many enemies are nearby.

After calculating the amount of cooldown I would get on my Shout Skills when I would see a specific number of enemies on the screen, I was able to conclude what the term nearby actually meant for enemies.

It is basically every enemy you see on your screen. Keeping you as the center point, every visible enemy around you is a “Nearby enemy“. They could be either Close or Distant but as long as they are visible on your screen, they can be referred to as “Nearby enemies” in Diablo 4.

That is all you need to know about the term “Nearby” in Diablo 4 and how it works for both lobby members as well as enemies.
