Jamie Mayer, a writer for Insomniac, titles Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine, accidentally confirmed the release date for the next game in PlayStation’s critically acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise on her website yesterday.
More than a year ago, we were handed the official Reveal Trailer for the PlayStation-exclusive web swinger with no tentative release date. But, much to everyone’s relief, we may have something to look forward to next year – owing to Jamie Mayer’s unintentional error while displaying her works on her website.
The writer accidentally included in her ‘About Me’ page that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is slated for a release in “fall 2023.” While she promptly rectified herself once the error was discovered, fans had already screen-captured her original statement. Twitter users like Evan Filarca immediately tweeted about the leak, including Jamie’s Twitter handle in the message.
Many fans interpret the insertion and subsequent removal from Jamie’s website as evidence that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be released this autumn. This suggests that the game will be released in the same September-November window as the previous releases, Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Others believe that the “accidental blunder” was everything but. It’s also worth mentioning that this gaffe occurred shortly after the PlayStation Store website for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 contained an unintentional ‘Wishlist’ option – one that was also quickly removed.
But that’s not all. On the same day, Sony Pictures Animation released the trailer for the highly anticipated animated picture, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The fact that so many Spider-Man-related events are taking place simultaneously must be a significant coincidence for the tech titan, and it is undoubtedly generating some hype in the sector.
The movie and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 are eagerly awaited, and Sony now holds all of the cards. It won’t be long before we see an official trailer for the game itself!
