The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom introduces a range of new and formidable enemies that will put your combat skills to the test. Among them are the Gloom Spawn, also known as Gloom Hands, a challenging enemy type that can be quite daunting to overcome.

In this Gamer Haul guide, we’ll provide you with effective strategies to easily and swiftly defeat the Gloom Hands in The Legend of Zelda: TOTK.

How to Beat Gloom Hands Easily in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Gloom Spawn, aka Gloom Hands, are among the most fearsome enemies in Tears of the Kingdom. Emerging from red gloom puddles with eyes on their palms, they will start chasing Link aggressively and, if caught in their grasp, can drain all his Hearts in a matter of seconds. Quick and relentless, they can also respawn if not dealt with swiftly!

Here are some tips and tricks to deal with this scary foe in Zelda: TOTK:

  1. Get to Higher Ground!
  • The first step when facing the Gloom Hands is to seek higher ground. These adversaries are remarkably fast, capable of catching up to you in seconds. The gloom they emanate can quickly drain your HP, so maintaining distance is crucial. Find a spot where they cannot reach you – like a cliff or ledge, and they’ll start bunching up.

  1. Opt for Heavy AOE Damage!
  • Once you’re on higher ground, the Gloom Hands will gather together, presenting the perfect opportunity for area-of-effect (AOE) damage. Use Bomb Flowers to damage multiple hands simultaneously – 5-6 hits will do the trick. Each hand has the ability to respawn if not dealt with simultaneously, so employing AOE attacks is highly effective. Additionally, magic rods that can deal big AOE elemental damage, such as a Sapphire Staff, are also effective!

  1. Aim for the Palm!
  • Use your best Bow and focus your attacks on the palm of each Gloom Hand. The eye at the center of the palm is their critical spot, receiving the most damage and causing them to stagger. Freeze them in place with Ice Fruit arrows, and finish them as quickly as possible!

  1. Wear Gloom Resistant Armor!
  • Equipping the Gloom Resistant armor set is a no-brainer when exploring Hyrule’s Depths or facing any Gloom-related threat. This armor set provides extra, regenerating Hearts when affected by gloom, enhancing your survivability and giving you an edge in combat.

  1. Prepare for What Comes Next!
  • Defeating the Gloom Hands is not the end of the challenge. Be prepared for the appearance of another “surprise guest” who will test your skills further. Without going into spoiler territory, my only suggestion is that you arm yourself with your best weapon for poke damage and be ready for some well-timed dodging! The significance of tip #4 also becomes even more apparent in this situation.
