Does Payday 3 Support Cross Platform or Progression?

Payday 3

As someone who’s been eagerly awaiting the release of Payday 3, I was thrilled to learn that the upcoming co-op heist shooter will include full crossplay support between PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. This is a massive step up from Payday 2, which had separate editions for console and PC players that lacked feature parity.

According to developer Starbreeze, Payday 3 will allow players on different platforms to team up for heists and other co-op activities. This crossplay functionality will be enabled through the use of Starbreeze accounts, which should make it easy to squad up with your friends no matter what system they own.

Crossplay Confirmed for All Platforms

In a recent Steam development update, Starbreeze definitively confirmed that Payday 3 will have crossplay across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC:

“PAYDAY 3 supports crossplay with all supported platforms, which means that you can play with your friends no matter where they prefer to play.”

This aligns with my experience in the recent Payday 3 closed beta, where I encountered Xbox players while playing on PC. Crossplay support wasn’t active during the beta for PlayStation users since they weren’t included in testing, but it’s great to have confirmation that PlayStation is part of the crossplay party.

Note: You can still enter the open beta by heading to the Steam Page and clicking the “Request Access” button. You will be granted access immediately.

Cross-Progression Also Supported

Starbreeze’s update also mentioned that Payday 3 will include cross-progression in addition to crossplay. This means you can switch between platforms while retaining your progress and unlocks.

“You will also be able to avail of cross-progression, so you can heist from your preferred platform at any time.”

From – Payday 3 FAQ Page

Cross-progression is a huge quality-of-life feature that will let me play Payday 3 on both PC and PlayStation 5 without starting over each time I swap platforms. It may not matter much to some, but it’s a big deal for players like myself who split time between multiple systems.

Cross-Platform Play Opens Up More Possibilities

I’m thrilled that Payday 3 is embracing crossplay and cross-progression. Being able to play with friends regardless of platform breaks down a major barrier, especially for a co-op focused game like Payday 3.

My regular Payday crew (Clan FTW) is split across PC and consoles, so having full crossplay support will make it easy for all of us to squad up when the game launches on September 21. And if I feel like kicking back on the couch and playing Payday on my PS5, I won’t lose any progress thanks to cross-progression.

It’s great to see Starbreeze delivering platform parity and cross-connectivity for Payday 3 right out of the gate. I can’t wait to assemble my crew and start pulling off elaborate heists together next month, no matter what systems we play on.
