Banner for the Upcoming Lightfall Expansion in Destiny 2

Lightfall is the name of the forthcoming Destiny 2 expansion, and it is just around the horizon. With only one month until the seemingly game-changing DLC arrives in Bungie’s long-running MMORPG, prepping for Lightfall is something that every Destiny 2 player should start doing sooner than later.

The best way to prepare for a future expansion is to start creating a checklist to ensure you don’t miss out on anything that will become difficult, if not impossible, to obtain once the expansion is released, as well as do everything you can to get a head start and make excellent progress on the very first day of release. In this Gamer Haul guide, we’ll go through everything you need to know and do to get ready for Destiny 2: Lightfall.

How to Become Lightfall-Ready in Destiny 2

1. Unlocking the Best Weapon Patterns

With the release of Lightfall, we will say goodbye to all of the seasonal vendors in the H.E.L.M., which means you will no longer be able to focus weapons and armor that each of them presently has in store. While certain seasonal weapons may be worth skipping, there are others that you will undoubtedly regret missing out on if you haven’t acquired their patterns yet. So, go hop on some seasonal playlist activities (past and present) and start grinding for those Deepsight Resonant weapons! Check out the lists below for the best PvP and PvE craftable seasonal weapons.

Here are my top picks (in order) for the must-craft weapons for PvE before Lightfall:

Weapon Name Weapon Type Seasonal Vendor
IKELOS_SMG_V1.0.3 Submachine Gun Exo Frame
CALUS Mini-Tool Submachine Gun Crown of Sorrow
IKELOS_SG_V1.0.3 Shotgun Exo Frame
Explosive Personality Grenade Launcher War Table
Retrofit Escapade Machine Gun Exo Frame
Bump in the Night Rocket Launcher Crown of Sorrow

And here are the top PvP weapons to craft before Lightfall:

Weapon Name Weapon Type Seasonal Vendor
Austringer Hand Cannon Crown of Sorrow
Piece of Mind Pulse Rifle War Table
Disparity Pulse Rifle Exo Frame
IKELOS_SMG_V1.0.3 Submachine Gun Exo Frame
Beloved Sniper Rifle Crown of Sorrow
Without Remorse Shotgun Crown of Sorrow

2. Hoarding Bounties

‘Bounty hoarding,’ or acquiring and completing bounties but not claiming the rewards, is one of the best things you can do in Destiny 2 to get an early head start in Lightfall. Because completed bounties do not expire, you may claim them as soon as the expansion goes live on February 28 and receive a significant boost to your Season Pass level, allowing you to unlock the crucial seasonal artifact mods and increase your Power Level quicker than other players.

Destiny 2 Bounties Challenges

Here are some tips to help you become an efficient bounty hoarder:

  • Your best friend in bounty hoarding will be the official Destiny 2 Companion mobile app, available for Android and iOS. This handy little application allows you to pick up Vendor Bounties on each of your characters without having to visit each World Vendor individually in-game.
  • The pre-seasonal checklist on the Destiny Recipes website includes a comprehensive list of all the bounties you can currently pick up in the game. Using Bungie’s API, the tool will help you track all your bounties, calculate exactly how much XP you have stored, and estimate how many season pass levels you will earn once you claim them.
  • Complete all Weekly Bounties first since they yield the most XP (12,000) before filling the remaining slots with Dailies.
  • You can hold a combined total of 63 bounties and quests. If you are looking to min-max the amount of XP you can stockpile before Lightfall, you will want to complete or abandon the quests you have already acquired. That said, I recommend keeping at least three slots free for any quests you’ll need to pick up for the future campaign!
  • Collect and complete not more than seven daily bounties from the Tower vendors, Banshee-44, Shaxx, Zavala, and Drifter. Once the Lightfall update goes live, pick up and complete the eighth bounty from each vendor for your new Powerful Gear reward.

Follow these steps to make the most out of your stored Bounties in Lightfall:

  1. Unlock the Seasonal Artifact by completing the introductory campaign mission.
  2. Equip the highest XP-boost mod on your Ghost.
  3. Join or create a fireteam with some friends and load into a destination.
  4. Turn in all of your stored bounties and watch the XP meter break!
  5. Repeat for other characters.

3. Completing Triumphs and Unlocking Titles

With the release of Lightfall, all of the triumphs and triumphs seals from Season 16 through Season 19 will be replaced with new ones. This means that when the expansion goes online on February 28, you will no longer be able to complete the existing triumphs or unlock the Destiny 2 Year 5 player titles by completing their corresponding Triumphs Seals. So, if you haven’t gotten around to obtaining your desired player title, I recommend not sleeping on it any longer and finally getting things rolling! You can track everything related to Triumphs and Seals on the incredibly well-designed Braytech website.

4. Clean Up That Vault!

A vault stuffed with useless junk is no way to begin a new expansion! You must clear enough room so that you can enjoy Lightfall without having to mess with your inventory. Take your time determining which of your duplicate weapons and armor pieces you will no longer require, and begin dismantling them one by one. Don’t forget that dismantling legendary gear will also provide you with valuable resources like Legendary Shards and Enhancement Cores, which will serve you in upgrading your newer Lightfall equipment! Light.gg‘s ‘Roll Appraiser’ tool will help you in selecting which weapons to keep and which ones to discard. For armors, discard anything that has lower than 62 stat points in total.
