In the vast and expansive world of Baldur’s Gate 3, treasure doesn’t always come neatly wrapped and labeled. Instead, you’ll stumble upon Dirt Mounds, inconspicuous heaps of dirt that hold buried treasures. If you’re wondering where to find these mounds and how to unearth their hidden riches, you’re in the right place. Let’s “dig into” the details!

Where to Find Dirt Mounds in BG3

These hidden loot locations are scattered throughout the open world in Baldur’s Gate 3. As you explore, keep an eye out for slightly raised heaps of dirt and stones. Additionally, passing the ocassional Survival Check during your exploration may reveal any Dirt Mounds in the area.

How to Dig Up Dirt Mounds in BG3

To excavate the buried treasure within a Dirt Mound, you’ll need at least 1 Shovel in any of your party member’s inventories.

As long as one of your party members has a Shovel, you can dig up any Dirt Mounds you encounter during your exploration, and reveal the treasure chest hidden within.

Thankfully, Shovels are common items that you’re likely to find without an extensive search. You might acquire one as a random drop from defeated enemies or purchase it from various merchants. Personally, I stumbled upon my first Shovel beside what seemed to be an already-dug-up dirt mound, just north-west of the Roadside Cliffs waypoint at coordinates: [X: 208 Y:385].

If you haven’t found one yet, consider checking that location during your BG3 journey!
