Legendary Linear Fusion Rifles may not be as good as they were in Destiny 2 last season due to the nerf in overall damage they suffered with the arrival of Lightfall, with every decent choice now apparently being out-damaged by the likes of ‘Explosive Light’ Rocket Launchers. There is, however, a new challenger in town, and its name is “Briar’s Contempt.”
In this god roll guide, we’ll go over the best perk combinations for Destiny 2’s newest Heavy (Solar) Linear Fusion Rifle added in Season 20 and how you can acquire one with your favorite perks.
Briar’s Contempt – God Roll for PvE
|Barrel:||Corkscrew Rifling||Balanced +5 stat boost to Range, Stability and Handling.|
|Magazine:||Enhanced Battery||For +1 base magazine size, helps with our Trait #1.|
|Trait #1:||Reconstruction||While you have the weapon stowed and are going to town with your Kinetic and Energy weapons, this perk automatically reloads and overflows the magazine up to double the capacity – essentially prepping the LFR up for a Boss-damage phase.|
|Trait #2:||Focused Fury||Since Focused Fury only looks at the BASE magazine size of the weapon, it synergizes perfectly with Reconstruction. Since you’ll have a total of 12 shots in the magazine, it essentially means that you have the 20% damage boost applied to the gun for 9 shots! Make sure you do score precision hits with the first 3 shots, though.|
|Masterwork:||Charge Time||Brings down the Charge Time between shots by 33, basically increasing the Rate of Fire for our main DPS weapon.|
|Mod:||Boss Spec||For that bit of extra damage against Boss enemies.|
The Briar’s Contempt is an Aggressive-frame Linear Fusion Rifle with a three-round burst that is extremely accurate and has minimal recoil for a weapon of this type. I used mine as my Heavy of choice against Caiatl in the Duality dungeon, and I’m not disappointed!
Briar’s Contempt – God Roll for PvP
|Barrel:||Hammer-Forged Rifling||+10 Range, plain and simple PvP perk!|
|Magazine:||Projection Fuse||More +10 Range. Can never have enough!|
|Trait #1:||Keep Away||Even more +10 Range along with increased accuracy when no enemies are within 15 metres.|
|Trait #2:||High-Impact Reserves||For a little extra damage against Guardians when you have less than three shots on the LFR. Because picking up Heavy Ammo in PvP doesn’t provide much ammo to begin with, this perk is essentially always procced.|
|Masterwork:||Charge Time||Reduced charge time between shots.|
|Mod:||Targeting Adjuster||+5 Aim Assistance.|
Because I frequently find myself “getting owned” by Linear Fusion Rifles in the Crucible, I know a large portion of the community prefers them as their Heavy weapon of choice in PvP. Personally, I’ll be mostly using Briar’s Contempt in PvE for Boss damage in some specific encounters, but with the above perks, you can also use the LFR in PvP if that’s your thing!
How to Get Briar’s Contempt in Destiny 2
Since it is a Raid weapon, you must complete encounters in the new Root of Nightmares Raid in Neomuna and hope you score your Briar’s Contempt LFR from the chest at the end. It is part of the loot pool of the first encounter, “Cataclysm,” and you’ll need five of its “red borders” to extract the patterns and unlock it for shaping at The Enclave.
RoN is a relatively easy Raid when compared to something like King’s Fall or Last Wish, so don’t be too intimidated if you’ve never raided in Destiny 2 before. That said, I do highly recommend joining an LFG discord server (or a good clan), such as Destiny 2 LFG, to find a Fireteam to learn the Raid and breeze through the encounters with.
