If you’re a Destiny 2 player, you’re probably already familiar with The Immortal, the latest 750 RPM Strand SMG to join the game in Season 20: Season of Defiance with the latest Lightfall expansion. This weapon can be obtained by participating in Trials of Osiris, and it’s been generating quite a bit of buzz among the community lately due to its powerful stats and unique perk pool.

In this Gamer Haul guide, we’ll be taking a closer look at The Immortal’s god roll perks and how you can acquire the SMG and chase those rolls more effectively!

The Immortal SMG – God Roll for PvP

Barrel: Full Bore With this weapon, we’ll go with a Range-centric build, and Full Bore gives a flat +15 boost to Range.
Magazine: Ricochet Rounds For more +5 Range and negating Full Bore’s penalty to the Stability stat.
Trait #1: Rangefinder Rangefinder not only increases the zoom magnification and effective range of our weapons, but it has also been tested to increase the damage falloff and aim assist/accuracy range.
Trait #2: Target Lock Target Lock is more consistent than Kill Clip, requiring no extra steps to activate. More on this is below!
Origin Trait: Alicrity +20 Range, +20 Stability, +50 Reload Speed, and +10 Aim Assistance when you’re the last living member of your fireteam or running solo. It beats the other traits by a margin!
Masterwork: Range With the +10 Range, we’ll have a more than satisfactory 80 Range on our best PvP SMG (without Adept Range).
Mod: Icarus Grip / Targeting Adjuster For improving the SMG’s Airborne Effectiveness/Aim Assist.

Based on its perks, The Immortal appears to be the most superior Legendary SMG available for Destiny 2 PvP! This is because it can roll with both Rangefinder in the third column, a range-increasing perk, AND a damage-enhancing perk such as Target Lock or Kill Clip in the fourth. Personally, I opted for Target Lock in the fourth column instead of Kill Clip since it doesn’t require a kill to activate and is, therefore, more reliable and consistent. If you’re a fan of SMGs in PvP like the Tarrabah and IKELOS v3, make sure to farm for the best rolls on The Immortal before it’s gone!

The Immortal SMG – God Roll for PvE

Barrel: Any Not worth chasing “the best” Barrel roll for a Trials weapon, so be happy with anything you manage to get on it!
Magazine: Any Same as the Barrel.
Trait #1: Threat Detector +60 Reload Speed, +40 Stability, and more Handling when you’re within 15 meters of two or more enemies. Since with an SMG, you’ll be in close range with your targets anyway; this perk choice is pretty obvious!
Trait #2: Hatchling Probably the best ad-clearing perk to be added this season. Don’t underestimate those Threadlings!
Origin Trait: Field-Tested Another perk added to the game with Lightfall; gradually increases the Range, Stability, Handling, and Reload Speed with final blows and dealing damage.
Masterwork: Handling/Stability Range is not as crucial in PvE, and we already have close-to-max Reload Speed with the above stats, so go with a Stability/Handling masterwork.
Mod: Minor Spec Since you’ll be mainly using it for ad-clearing. You can go with Major spec for easier activities where ads are squishier.

Being a weapon of the new Strand variant and the fact that it can roll with the new Threadling-generating perk, Hatchling, The Immortal has potential. This season, there are several artifact mods that can boost the performance and usefulness of Strand weapons, and SMGs are still effective for taking down Overload Champions, just like in Season 19. So, if you happen to get your hands on a copy of this impressive SMG with the above perks, make sure you don’t accidentally dismantle it thinking it’s not worth keeping – because it certainly has some potential.

How to Get & Farm The Immortal in Destiny 2

Saint-14 Rank 10 Reward

Similar to the Astral Horizon, The Immortal is a Trials-exclusive weapon that can be obtained by playing the PvP 3v3 Trials of Osiris game mode in the Crucible. This game mode is only available on weekends, with a different weekly map rotation. Additionally, The Immortal is a featured ‘Ritual Weapon’ that can be obtained by reaching Rank 10 with the Trials host, Saint-14, who can be found in the Hanger at the Tower. I highly recommend saving any Trials Engrams that you acquire by playing Trials since you can use them for Focus-Decoding this new OP SMG with Saint-14, provided that you’ve already unlocked it in your Weapon Collections. So, to simplify:

  • Pick up a ‘Trials Passage’ from Saint-14 in the Hanger at the Tower.
  • Play Trials of Osiris on the weekends, earning enough Trials Reputation to rank up with Saint-14 while also piling up as many Trials Engrams as possible.
  • Obtain The Immortal SMG as the Trials of Osiris Guardian Rank 10 reward.
  • Start decoding the Engrams into the weapon until you get one with the God Roll perks!
