D2: Abyss Defiant PvP God Roll
Below are my personal recommendations for the PvP God Roll perks on the Auto Rifle:
| Barrel: | Fluted Barrel | +5 Stability and +15 Handling. This Auto Rifle has a high Range, but these are two stats that it lacks. |
| Magazine: | Ricochet Rounds | +5 Range and +10 Stability. This, along with a Stability Masterwork, will bump up the stat to 50 and the Range to almost 90 – which is a good balance. |
| Trait #1: | Zen Moment / Heal Clip | Zen Moment is a perk that doesn’t need any conditions to proc – making it one of the most sought-after perks for increasing your overall dueling potential in the Crucible. Heal Clip is S22’s new survivability-focused perk and could be a fun option when paired with Kill Clip. |
| Trait #2: | Target Lock / Kill Clip | Target Lock has been a staple perk for PvP, and even after the recent nerf, it’s still pretty strong. As mentioned above, Heal Clip + Kill Clip is a strong combo you can also try out. |
| Origin Trait: | Cursed Thrall | After defeating a target with a melee attack, final blows with this weapon cause targets to explode for a short duration. |
| Masterwork: | Stability | +10 Stability. |
| Mod: | Targeting Adjuster / Counterbalance Stock | Targeting Adjuster adds a +5 to the Aim Assistance stat, while Counterbalance Stock will make it easier to control the recoil. |
Auto Rifles are in a good state in Destiny 2 PvP right now, and the Abyss Defiant presents an excellent pool of perks that synergize well with each other.
- Zen Moment + Target Lock is the most “meta” perk combo to go for, as it only requires you to hold the trigger and land your shots to proc both the perks.
- But if you’re feeling experimental, definitely give Heal Clip + Kill Clip a try! Reload after a kill to give the gun a temporary damage boost while also curing yourself and nearby allies.
- Cursed Thrall is one of the most fun Origin Traits introduced in the game in a long time. And with so many melee builds available for PvP, it is also pretty easy to proc.
D2: Abyss Defiant PvE God Roll
Below are my personal recommendations for the PvE God Roll perks on the Auto Rifle:

| Magazine: | Ricochet Rounds | +15 Reload Speed and +10 Stablity. |
| Trait #1: | Heal Clip / Subsistence | Heal Clip is an excellent option for more challenging endgame content (like Grandmaster Nightfalls), as it essentially provides healing on demand. Subsistence remains a good option if you hate reloading, though. |
| Trait #2: | Incandescent / Sword Logic | Incandescent synergizes well with the gun’s Origin Trait, resulting in even more explosions on kills. Sword Logic is a consistent damage-boosting perk that essentially results in more damage with each combatant defeated. |
| Origin Trait: | Cursed Thrall | After defeating a target with a melee attack, final blows with this weapon cause targets to explode for a short duration. |
| Masterwork: | Reload Speed | +10 Reload Speed. |
| Mod: | Major Spec | ~7% Damage increase against Elites and Minibosses. |
You’ll love the Abyss Defiant if you enjoy using Auto Rifles for PvE content in Destiny 2. It boasts some excellent perk combos for both casual content, like seasonal activities, as well as more hardcore content, like GM Nightfalls and Raids. It is truly an all-rounder 360 RPM AR and one of the best ones in this archetype!
How to Get Abyss Defiant in Destiny 2
Since it is a Raid-exclusive weapon, you must complete encounters in the Crota’s End Raid and hope you score your Abyss Defiant from the chest at the end. Crota’s End is the latest free-to-play Raid added to Destiny 2 with the launch of Season 22: Season of the Witch, and you can access it from the ‘Legends’ category in Destinations.
In particular, the first and last encounters of the raid—“Enter the Abyss” and “Crota, Son of Oryx”—have the Abyss Defiant as part of the featured loot. You’ll need five Deepsight Resonant copies (red borders) to extract the patterns and unlock the Auto Rifle for crafting at The Enclave.
