Best Iron Farming Methods Starfield

Best Fe Farm Starfield – Iron, an essential resource in the Starfield universe, finds its use in various research projects, crafting specific weapon modifications, and as a fundamental ingredient in constructing outpost structures. Running low on this versatile metal can prove highly inconvenient, but fortunately, Iron is a common metal and can be found throughout the galaxy.

In this guide, we’ll delve into the best methods to farm Iron (Fe) in Starfield, ensuring you’re well-equipped for your interstellar adventures!

How to Get Iron (Fe) in Starfield

There are mainly three ways to obtain Iron efficiently in Starfield:

1. Destroying Asteroids in Space

One of the primary methods of acquiring Iron is by visiting random planets within systems and destroying the asteroids orbiting them. The larger the asteroid, the more Fe you can expect to obtain from it! However, it’s important to note that not all of these galactic rocks yield Iron; some may contain other resources like Water and Carboxylic Acids.

A fantastic spot for an asteroid-destroying spree is the orbit of Hardpoint, Moon of Navah, inside the Cheyenne System. This approach is excellent for farming Iron when you’re in the mood for some space exploration rather than hunting for deposits on-surface!

2. Mining Iron from Deposits

The second method to obtain Iron is by manually mining it from Iron-rich planets (see our list below for recommendations):

  • Use your hand scanner to locate Iron ore veins when you’re on the surface of a planet or moon.
  • Once you’ve located a vein, approach it and utilize your Laser Cutter to extract the metal.

While this method offers a quick way to obtain Iron, it involves active exploration and mining. However, there’s a more passive approach to automatically collect this resource while you focus on other activities.

3. Using an Extractor to Mine Iron

Installing an Outpost in Starfield for Automatic Mining of Resources

A more relaxed approach to Iron mining in Starfield involves setting up an Extractor to handle the work for you. Here’s how to do it:

  • Use your Starmap to “Scan” and identify Iron-rich planets or moons (or refer to our list below for the best locations).
  • Land on the selected planet and, using your scanner, locate areas with a high concentration of Iron deposits.
  • Once you’ve chosen a suitable site, place an Outpost beacon covering as many Iron deposits as possible.
  • Install an Iron Extractor on the deposits, along with a power source like a Fueled Generator, Wind Turbine, or Solar Array.
  • The Extractor will automatically mine Iron; remember to visit it periodically to empty it or, even better, construct a storage container to prevent it from overflowing!

4. Purchasing Iron from Vendors

Purchasing Iron from Vendor

Lastly, an effortless way to acquire Iron in Starfield is by purchasing it from vendors scattered across major planets. While Iron is not particularly expensive, keep in mind that the availability of this metal with a specific vendor can be somewhat random:

Vendor Location Planet
Jemison Mercantile New Atlantis Jemison
Mining League Neon Volii Alpha
Midtown Minerals Akila City Akila
UC Distribution Center New Atlantis Jemison
Denis Averin Cydonia Mars

#ProTip: If you purchase all of a merchant’s Iron stock, you can simply wait in a chair for 24 in-game hours, and their stock will refresh. This strategy enables you to have an endless supply of any resource, provided you can afford it!
