With the release of Season 2, the most anticipated Ranked Multiplayer game mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has finally arrived. ‘Ranked Play’ is MW2’s official competitive 4v4 game format, mirroring the Call of Duty League, COD’s professional esports league. It features the same rules, restrictions, map pool, game modes, and weapons as the CDL, so players who are familiar with and follow COD esports closely will have an easier time climbing up the many skill divisions and ranks in this new competitive game mode complete with its unique rewards.

2. Skill Rating and Skill Divisions
Playing and finishing ranked matches earns you Skill Rating (SR) points, which define the Skill Rating Division you belong in. Everyone will begin at Bronze and progress through the eight Skill Divisions (SD) using the traditional ranking system used in most competitive games: Winning results in +SR while losing results in -SR. Also, not unlike other competitive multiplayer games, the amount of SR you gain or lose depends on your individual and team performance. Here is a breakdown of all the Skill Divisions and the Skill Rating brackets in MW2 Ranked Play:
Skill Division | Skill Rating |
---|---|
Bronze | 0-899 SR |
Silver | 900-2,099 SR |
Gold | 2,100-3,599 SR |
Platinum | 3,600-5,399 SR |
Diamond | 5,400-7,499 SR |
Crimson | 7,500-9,999 SR |
Iridescent | 10,000 SR minimum |
Top 250 | 10,000+ SR |
Every Skill Division below Iridescent has three Tiers (I, II, and III) to progress through.
Squadding-up Restrictions
Similar to that of Valorant‘s Competitive system, certain partying-up restrictions are also in place:
Skill Division | Party Restrictions |
---|---|
Bronze | Players can party up with no restrictions. |
Silver | Players can party up with no restrictions. |
Gold | Players can party up with no restrictions. |
Platinum | Players can party up with no restrictions. |
Diamond | Can only form parties with and play against other players within two Skill Divisions. |

End-of-Season Skill Division Reset
Your highest Skill Division placement at the end of each season will determine what rewards you earn as well as which Skill Division you start in for the following season:
Current Season Highest SD | Next Season Starting SD | Demotion Protection |
---|---|---|
Bronze | Bronze Tier I | First 3 Matches |
Silver | Bronze | First 3 Matches |
Gold | Silver | First 3 Matches |

3. Ranks
Skill Divisions and Ranks are two separate systems in Modern Warfare 2:
- Winning in Ranked Play will contribute to your Rank, indicating your overall ‘rank progress.’
- There are 50 Ranks in total.
- Every Ranked Play victory nets you a Star. Earn enough Stars, and you’ll be promoted to the next Rank.
- Every 5 Ranks grants a new symbol in the color of your Skill Division.
- Your Rank will not reset at the start of a new season.
